The Brief
web design for a dark romance author
The website for dark romance author Nicole J. Owens includes a five-page website, with new author branding including multiple logo variations in three colours and six styles for print and digital media, an integrated Shopify eCommerce solution to sell signed copies of her books, and an automated lead capture and newsletter campaign handled through MailerLite where Nicole offers a free chapter to new subscribers, and can market to her current readers. The website also includes her socials and a brand new blog, and her book listings, where applicable, include clearly marked content warnings.
The Nicole J. Owens website has five content pages, a blog, and required a rebrand of her author logo to reflect her style. We conducted a branding interview to establish her preferred colours, providing options for shade variations, and integrated Nicole’s preferred iconography.
We wanted to design a site that was both deeply personal and reflective of Nicole’s style, using favourite colours and motifs, , while still maintaining legibility, accessibility, and visual conventions that recall genre cues for new readers, looking for titles in new dark romance to read.
The site also integrates an eCommerce solution with Shopify for Nicole to sell signed and limited edition copies of her books, an integrated newsletter and automation campaign, and a blog to highlight upcoming local and regional events and signings.
